The International Hot Jazz Quartet is one terrific band, at once tight, yet with a sense of ease, and a great deal of spirit. It is a very "together" band; they all have a feel for the music. What is fascinating is how much musical territory this band can cover Ð from the early-20th-century roots of jazz up into the 1950s —and carry it all off with comfort, conviction, and cohesiveness.
